San Rafael: LaCoppa outlet - beans direct from the roasting room as low as $7.47 lb

I FINALLY found the building where LaCoppa roasts its coffee. It turned out to be not that difficult, It is right in back of Travelodge off S. Francisco.

It is a typical industrial area building with a small retail area in front and you can see the back room where the coffee is roasted with huge sacks of beans.

If you buy 2 or more pounds of coffee, there is a 25% discount which means the $9.95 house blend is $7.47. It even applies to the 100% Jamaica Blue Mountain which sells for $65 lb. They were out of that on my visit and only had the blend.

In addition to bins of beans ... they roast on Mon, Tue, Wed and Fri ... there are pots of self-service coffee ... leave $1.50 in a can. If you want an espresso drink, one of the staff will come out and make it for you. There are also baked goods. There was a nice looking sheet of coffee cake. Don't know who makes it.

The coffees by the cup were the LaCoppa house blend, French roast, and decaf Sumatra Swiss water process.

The house blend has that taste of coffee makers like Four Barrel and Ritual which I'm not crazy about. These coffees have this sour edge I don't like but it was only a hint here.

I liked the French Roast a lot. I think it compares favorably to Graffeo's dark roast.

Hours are 6:30 am - 4 pm Mon-Fri. Lots of easy parking.

I think I got this tip from Chowhound, but I've searched and searched and just can't find the post. So whoever you are ... thanks.
