Midtown/Theater Recommendation

Hey All,

I am going to a show this saturday night and staying on 57th at 7th avenue. We are looking for a recommendation for a casual place we could drop in without a reservation, between those two locations. We want to avoid Italian food. Price isn't an issue, just good food and convenience before the show. We like all cuisines.

Thanks for the help.
Scott

    Molyvos (Greek/Med)
    Toloache (Mex)
Bar Americain (American - great shellfish cocktails)

Lots of options in that area: if you go a bit east, you'll find Burger Joint in the Parker Meridien, and Menchanko Tei or Men Kui Tei for noodles (one of the two is closed for renovations, but can't remember which); there's Angelo's (pizza) on Broadway between 53 and 54, BXL Cafe (Belgian bar with excellent mussels and onion soup) at 43rd and 7th; or if you go west to 9th Avenue you'll find Uncle Nick's (Greek) at 53rd, Hell's Kitchen (new Mexican) at 46th, Marseilles (French) at 43rd, and lots of other places if you search for 9th Avenue on the Board. Pre-theater has been covered pretty extensively.

        A few location corrections:

        Uncle Nicks, on 9th, b/t 50th & 51st Sts.

Marseille, on the corner of 9th & 44th

Both are good choices. However, dropping in without a reservation at Marseille could be problematical.

Same with Hell's Kitchen, which I also like. For pre-theatre Saturday night, I'd definitely reserve.

            Whoops, sorry about the addresses.

That said, if the OP is hitting up Marseille early (i.e. pre-theater), he should be okay - at the very least, whenever I've gone between 6 and 6:30 there have been at least a dozen open tables. Granted I've never tried that on a Saturday.

I think showing up at Marseille without a reservation pre-theater (which is when the o.p. wants eat) is much more dicey on a Saturday than mid-week.
