I'm living in Etterbeek and enjoying the exciting options in nearby Matonge. Does anyone have any suggestions for the best value as far as markets go? I'd also love suggestions of good asian supermarkets, butchers, spice shops. I'm looking for local secrets!

I'm not familiar with your commune, which is why I've not written. When it comes to small shops, I imagine you'll find great options in Ixelles, and I have to say that there's an amazing fish man in Vivier d'Oie in Uccle/Ukkel (near Place St Job) (prepared things and fresh fish).

As for Asian supermarkets, if there are not in your neighbourhood, please know that there are many right around the Bourse, below Blvd Anspach-- heading away from the Grand Place towards Place St Catherine.

Let us know what you find!

try the expats.be webiste, lots of us post questions about where to find certain ingredients.
I also sho the Rob grocery store and Stonemanor once a month to stock up on a few hard to find "American" things. I live in Leuven and use 5-6 different stores regularly to find all my foodie needs, you will probably need to do the same.
