Best South Indian for group?

RBCG Mar 12, 2009 06:45 AM

Any thoughts on the best south indian place for a large-ish group (10-11 people)?

Sounds like some of the best places (Saravanaas, etc.) may not be good for such a group. How's Chennai Gardens? Tiffin Wallah?

Any advise appreciated.

I've had a large dinner at tiffin wallah about twice (about 10), though it on a weekday evening which isn't as busy as weekday lunch for them. Fantastic meal as always from there.

Try making a reservation, if I remember correctly they may accept reservations for large groups.

Chennai Garden tends to be quieter so that might be a better bet than Saravanaas (which is busier than a Mumbai thoroughfare). The other good choices like Pongal or Tiffin Wallah are a bit too small, I think, though you can always try them.

agree re: chennai gardens; tiffin wallah is way crowded and popular; would be tough to get a large group seated nicely in there.

I _have_ seen large groups at Saravanaas, though. They put a bunch of tables together against the wall.

Yes, I was there with a large group once (over 10), and it was fine.
