Good restaurant in White Plains or Tarrytown for rehearsal dinner?

manhattanbride Mar 11, 2009 07:45 AM

I am looking for a restaurant with really good food to host a dinner the night before my wedding. It can be cocktails and appetizers, tapas, etc. or a sit-down dinner. Guests are staying in White Plains or in Tarrytown so something convenient to hotels in those areas would be great. Open to: american, new-american, spanish, italian. Care much more about food quality than decor, etc. If anyone can be of any help, I would really appreciate it! I have read countless posts and can't seem to find any restaurant that people in the area think has good food at the right price.

If you haven't gone yet, there's LaBocca on Church Street in White Plains.....Very nice for your guests. The food and service are excellent. A very nice atmosphere for family and friends especially because you are having both for your rehearsal dinner!!! Good Luck...Ask for Nicola, he'll make it fantastic for you!!!

I had my sister's bridal shower in the private room at Ruby's in Rye. It is upstairs from the rest of the often noisy restaurant, def private and fits I think up to 30. Great wine list, food is good and they worked with my budget.

Sams on Gedney has a private room and the food is good there.

If you want to do something different/ethnic, Aquario is great, when I want fish, that's where I head to, the owner is very nice (brother owns Caravela in Tarrytown, but they don't talk to each other).

Again, I had a fabulous experience w/Sunset cove for my husbands party. The food was better than expected, the location is great, no issues with parking, the staff was extremely accomodating. Plus, since you're looking at May, the weather should be better too, it's a really pretty location.

Red Hat on the river is trying to be too NY for me and when we ate there was not impressed with the food, considering their prices.

My daughters rehearsal dinner in 3 weeks is being held at Trinity Pub in Harrison. Check it out. Apparently they have a private room. We are, however, doing it on Fri. night.

Try Gervasi's in White Plains. The chef is formerly of Mulino's which has a very good reputation.

What is the date of the rehersal dinner?

I like Tango Grill, it's very "NY", expensive though. Sams is a great neighborhood place, good solid food, don't know La Bocca. Between Sams and Sunset Cove though, I'd go for Sunset Cove, especially if you'll be there for sunset, they are quite nice from there.

After making a lot of calls, I think I will need to decide between the following: Aquario, Sunset Cove and La Bocca. It will be at the end of May so could be nice weather for outside at Sunset Cove. But that aside, would be interested to hear what all of your votes would be for between those three!

I've only been to Sunset Cove, for Sunday brunch in July. They were accomodating a 25th Anniversary party, and those folks seemed to have had a fine time. We were on our own, but thought the food was fine - not gourmet, but enjoyable and generous. I'd go eat dinner at each place before booking, and talk with the catering staff about what they can do.

I agree with Nancy C. I would go and try out each of the three places before you book a party. This way you can a feel for the restaurant and talk to the owner or manager about booking a party.... I personally like La Bocca the best but if you want to try for outside seating then Sunset Cove works but food is okay. You can also Red Hat on the River. Good food and a great view...

Have you tried 42 at the Ritz Carlton in White Plains.

Another suggestion, I just had a party for my husband at Sunset Cove in Tarrytown, down by the river. All my foodie friends raved about the food, they did a great job and they're reasonable. Nice views of the river too. They don't have a private room, but would give you a section of the restaurant (it's very small). If the dinner is during the summer, they do have a tent they put up outside for private parties.

Did try 42 - quite expensive per person - $100+ Thanks for the Sunset Cove suggestion - I have a call into them.

Do you or anyone else know anything about La Bocca?

In addition to La Bocca, anyone have thoughts on: Tango Grill, Caravela or Sam's of Gedney Way? Thank you!

Sam's quite large and they have different sized private rooms. They do a lot of events.

I've been to Caravela but I can't think of where they would have the room to accomodate you. Sam's has the space and the food is ok. I was just looking at the Hudson Valley Restaurant Week thread and they have a restaurant on there called BistroZ, apparently it's in the Doubletree Hotel in Tarrytown, I really don't know anything about it but it did say it has a private room for parties http://www.bistrozny.com/ordereze/Con...

La Bocca is very good also. They have a room off to the side. May be able to accomodate 25 people. The owner Tony Spiritoso would probably be willing to work with you....

Thanks for the suggestion - I have heard this restaurant is great and called. Unfortunately, they don't have private parties on Saturday evenings, which is when our dinner will be.

I ended up calling them. They won't do a private dinner on a Saturday evening, unforunately.

What do people think of Antipasti?

Antipasti is very disappoint both in food and service.
There is a new place on Mamaroneck Avenue that is getting good press. Soma 107. I've had drinks at the bar and also have eaten dinner there. They have private rooms and since they are fairly new might be accomodating on a Saturday night. They are also spacious.

Great lead with Soma 107 - called and waiting for a call back today. Thanks again.

My BIL got married a couple of years ago at Abigal Kirsch in Tarrytown. They had their rehersal dinner at Aquario, a Portugese/Brazilian restaurant in West Harrison, not too far from White Plains (and free parking). I really enjoyed it.
