A friend, said Starving Artist, will be in Memphis this weekend and needs some good food, reasonably priced suggestions in the Downtown to Midtown area. He has a car available to him.

Thanks for your help!

  1. In Midtown - Central BBQ or BBQ Shop for good BBQ without a big price, Payne's for the best BBQ sandwich anywhere, Young Ave Deli or Kwik Check for sandwiches, Casa Grill for Middle Eastern, Golden India, Blue Monkey or Broadway Pizza for pizza and atmosphere, Lobster King for dim sum and bhan mi.

For Downtown - Gus's Fried Chicken, Westy's for wild rice and hot fudge pie, Alcenia's for soul food, Ernestine & Hazel's for a soul burger, Arcade for sweet potato pancakes, Cozy Corner for BBQ balogna or Cornish hen.

Thanks, mamsquirrel! I've passed along your suggestions. They'll give him good choices for wherever he happens to find himself. He really appreciates it.

Mamasquirrel knows her nuts. Nicely done.

          Some corrections:

          1. Blue Monkey hasn't served pizza in years, but the Hi Tone actually makes pretty good stuff and has $2 PBR draft which is a fine starving artist price.
          2. Lobster King is, alas, closed. I've no idea where to get Banh Mi in Memphis any more between Indochina's closing and this.

Lobster King closed??? Damn! I only went there once, but I was by myself and didn't get to sample very much- that was going to be *the* place to take my wife and friends the next time we made a group trip to Memphis!
