Maytag Fridge recall

Wasn't sure where to post this, but the mods will move to the right board? Story seems to be buried, but as of today 3/10, maytag corp has recalled 1.6 million of their fridges for a faulty circuit that can lead to fires, etc. Also affected are Jenn-air, amana, magic chef and others. I called the toll free # and mine is on the bad list. They're sending a (lonely?...) repairman out tomorrow to fix it. I don't have the info @ hand, but will try to look it up.... adam

It is my understanding that this recall does not affect the refrigerators with a bottom freezer.

that's great news! I have a bottom freezer.
I thought the model # "on the back" meant at the rear of the outside of the refrigerator.
I think I could see my way clear to look in the back of the inside!

Thank you. Good friends literally just bought a Maytag fridge (2 weeks ago?) after their original fridge unexpectedly bit the dust. Talk about a run of bad luck!

The recall affects certain refrigerators/freezers manufactured between "January 2001 through January 2004".
