Lola's Tea House-You've been warned

My boyfriend and I are a fan on tea rooms, so we thought we would try Lola's Tea House in Pelham (it's new to our knowledge). What a waste.

First off, our tea had absolutely no flavor. It tasted like water. We are both know a lot about tea, and when I looked into our teapots, the tea leaves were still left in, which is usually a big no-no. To top it off, the amount of tea leaves they used were microscopic, it was no wonder the tea tasted like hot water.

The food was awful. I tried the smoked salmon sandwich, which was supposed to come on "artisan whole wheat" but when I got it, it was regular plain sliced untoasted white bread. So it kept sticking to the roof of my mouth. Ugh. Also, the sandwich was supposed to come with a "light wasabi sour cream spread" which to my knowledge, was not on the sandwich. The sandwich was really tiny, and at $7.50, you think they could do a little better. I also got a salad with mine, which was flavorful, but it was so tiny (that in itself was $6).

My meal was nothing compared to my boyfriend's though. He ordered the soup and spinach quiche. I knew the quiche would be small, but this piece made "small" look huge. It was also cold in the middle. The soup, which was "roasted red pepper and tomato" sounded awfully familiar to me, and when my boyfriend got it-I remembered that this is the same EXACT soup Trader Joe's sells in a box. For $3.95 for a small bowl of Trader Joe's soup, they have got to be making a huge profit on that alone. To top it off, the soup was cold just like the quiche. Ugh. The bill came to $36.40 and we were both so hungry after that. Neither of us even bothered to finish our teas.

The service was awful too. No one bothered to come and ask how anything was or if we needed anything. One person was behind the counter talking to what looked like friends, and the other was too busy in the kitchen making all the food. My boyfriend finally had to go up to the counter and to pay the bill.

We have always went to Silver Tips Tea Room in Tarrytown, and that is something I definitely recommend to all. They always have hot, fresh, flavorful, homemade soups that are always vegetarian. Their sandwiches are huge and I absolutely love their Mediterranean (black olive spread with basil and cream cheese) or their Tarry chicken (chicken with a hit of barbeque sauce). They have delicious wraps too, their Marakesh (vegetarian) is so delicious with lots of fresh cabbage and lentils with balsamic tomtoes and peppers. Mmm. Their teas are always brewed to perfection too. Plus their prices are beyond reasonable for the portions they give you.

I was excited to think that maybe Lola's would be another tea place we could frequent, but what a let down it was. I really do feel bad for the place. I mean, if someone takes the initiative to open up a place, I don't understand why they would let the food be so bad. To be fair, their desserts looked quite good, but I was so disgusted with the place by that point that I didn't even bother to try anything. Maybe other people have had different experiences their, but I definitely do not recommend it. Try Silver Tips instead!
