Del Porto - review
was treated to a wonderful dinner over the weekend at Covington's Del Porto. did 5 courses (listed below) and nearly everything was excellent. as usual, i rate a place on 3 factors: Food, Service, Atmosphere.
*food* - exceptional. i dont think ive ever ordered 3 apps before and found each of them Very Good (tm). the house-made pastas & meats were amazing. my Scallops entree were pretty impressive -- two giant sea scallops paired w/ grapefruit & orange (satsuma?), and some sauteed veggie that i cant place now. the online menu doesnt have the Butter Lettuce salad version i had, but it was very good as well.
*service* - very good. attentive, not too intrusive, ready at the wine pour, friendly, knowledgeable about the menu.
*atmosphere* - good. low lighting, tablecloths, chatter.
...only "misses" were the desserts and one salad. the napoleon was pretty hard, and the cake was dry and seemed refrigerated. the mushroom salad was too salty due to a dumptruck of aged cheese on top.
other than that, the meal was stellar. currently Del Porto and Patois are my top two current picks, and id readily recommend either.

I dined there recently and had superb food also, with the exception of dessert. Had a pear tart with vanilla "gelato." The gelato tasted like store bought ice cream and I have had better apple pie from Mrs. Smith. Our menu choices were very close. I also had the fennel sausage cavatelli and thought it amazing. My mushroom salad was to die for... especially the crisp mushrooms. Can't rave enough about them. I did the artichoke & white bean puree as well as the carpaccio. I also had a pizza there that evening. The pizza was amazing and was topped with sopprasotta. A wonderful meal, but with what I considered slow service. I was displeased to wait 10 minutes for a cocktail, but while waiting I watched the manager standing behind the bar eating and another waitstaff member seated at the bar eating. There was nothing wrong with the service provided by Lauren, but the idea of watching employees eat threw me a curveball. Amazing food though, so I will return.
