Anything Great In or Near the Calgary Airport?
Flying out to Kamloops next Saturday and have a 2 hour layover mid-trip at the Calgary airport. Any options for great food (any variety) either close by or in the airport? Thanks in advance for any recomendations.
There's really nothing close enough by outside the airport for a 2 hour layover. Your best bet may be the Delta hotel which is almost attached to the airport but 2 hours isn't much time when you have to go past security.
In Concourse D is a bar called Palomino operated by Milesetones which has sandwiches and such and there are a couple of Chili's locations then you have your basic food fair, a Montana's and a Kelsey's.
I feel like apologizing on behalf of the city.

I ate at the Palomino last time I travelled, I wiped the rim of my wine glass with my napkin and it came off brown.
I wonder if they've ever changed the water in their dishwasher?

You do not have time to leave the airport. Don't attempt it for a two-hour layover at any airport.
eating options are typical of most Canadian airports. http://www.calgaryairport.com/
Sharonanne, when robb sees how horrible the dining options are in Kamloops, he might actually prefer Montana's on the way home.

Thanks for the recs-was hoping for some sort of ehtnic take-out within about a 10 minute cab ride as all bags are checked through. Oh well! John-not actually staying in Kamloops but heading up to Sunpeaks for the week. Hopeing to find some chow worthy options up there but I'm a little skeeptical. One thing for sure is that the snow will be good!!

Well NE Calgary (where YYC is) has TONS of ethnic options- but think of it as Calgary's Brampton; it's not like you can park the car and stroll around, all strip malls, and you really would have to have a place picked out and head there FAST. I would simply not risk it. 2 hours is not that long of a layover is you're intending to sit down to eat.
Another issue is that getting a taxi FROM the airport is a piece of cake, but TO the airport- unless you're going to have the driver wait for you- can be impossible on that short of notice. If you do have the driver wait, then you're looking at, oh, $50 or more. For a snack. It is not worth it.

T&T supermarket at Harvest Hills is about 10 mins away by cab (depending on traffic). They have a reasonable selection of sushi & cafeteria style food available in an instant.
Agree with JM that 2 hours is not a lot of time, but this option would be good cab wise as they have one of those cab phone lines instore.
Just a thought.

I always forget that there is stuff, and lots of it, NORTH of the airport.
And yes, T&T is a great option there. Thanks gjw.

I'd go to the Afghan place on Barlow just north of 32 ave but I still say there isn't enough time.
It's seccurity that might kill you. Sometimes you get through quickly and sometimes you don't. Also, the taxi would have to wait as JM said.
What JM said about the taxi was true too, have it wait.
