WSJ loves the Breville Smart Oven & single burner CookTek....
Does anyone have/use either of these? My $$$$ Cuisinart toaster oven works OK as an oven...not so much as a toaster. Plus the white enamel started chipping/cracking within a month & looks like sh*t. It needs replacing. Is the Breville the right way to go? Or is there something even better?

I have the Breville Smart Oven and love it. I bought it in February. I also have the Breville Die Cast 2-slice toaster that is the best toaster I have ever owned. I bought the toaster a week before the oven. You really do not need both but I like the toaster so much I decided to keep it. The oven fits nicely on my counter and does everything a stove oven is capable of doing. I went to Willams Sonoma because I wanted to see and talk to someone about the Breville. I am glad I did. The price is pretty standard.
My experiences with toaster ovens have been pretty poor -- they seem to be a jack-of-all-trades-and-master-of-none sort of appliance. That said, the Breville Smart Oven does seem to be a good thing. It remains a big consumer of all-to-limited counterspace, so I would have a hard time justifying.
It would appear the WSJ might have a better handle on toaster ovens than the business world.
The CookTek Single-Burner is intriguing. However, the fact that it is induction is troublesome (hope your cookware is compatible) and its power requirements (220V) make it a non-starter: hard to justify the cost of an electrician running a 220V outlet into our kitchen.
The bigger picture is that the conventional residential kitchen stove is realy a relic -- the combination of 4-6 burners and oven/broiler hasn't been a good fit for most families in 40-50 years. (360 days out of the year, it goes completely underutilized; on the few days it is pressed into service for holidays and entertaining, it is quickly overwhelmed.)
