Gefilte Fish for Passover

Most recipes call for carp, whitefish, pike, haddock, or similar firm white filets. It is really difficult to find these fish fresh. Can I substitute something else that is more readily available here in Northern California?

    I googled recipes using Red Snapper and Salmon. Others mentioned Talipia.
