Troy Restaurant (Turkish) Perth Amboy

I just read in nj.com that there is a new Turkish/Mediterranean restaurant on Rt. 35 in Perth Amboy. I found their web site and it seems like they have an interesting menu (also have a lot of "American-Italian" options). I am not sure how long they have been open but am wondering if anyone has checked this place out. Thanks so much! The site is : http://troycuisine.com/

  1. thanks for the post. this looks like a wallet-friendly alternative to Marmara. i am a little suspicious of the italian-american food, though.

Went there a few years ago and my impression was pizza place with a few Mediterranean options. My biggest memory is unfortunately telling myself not to go back. Maybe things have changed since then. I haven't been back since. I'd be more than willing to give it a throw on Monday since I'm always in the area. I'll try anything you want on the menu just let me know.

for comparison Effes in New Brunswick is a much better option in this price range IMO.

    2. All I can say is , DIRTY, DIRTY, DIRTY. I tried hte place maybe over a year ago and thought what kind of place is this? A pizzaria, Italian-American, or Middle Eastern? The pizza looked liked it was from the day before. I personally never eat there because all these things turned me off completely!

I saw that article also in the paper, and that video did NOT look appetizing at all. I would sterr clear of this place. Go to Ibby's in Freehold instead.

hi angelina, we passed by Ibby's today on the way to el meson- it looked good. are they byo?

        1. re: njchowgal

Hi chowgal...believe me..nothing special inside. You actually order yourself, then you bascially serve yourself (no wait staff) which, is just fine with me. Yes, BYOB and there is a liquor store right next store. I have not tried it until very recently. I waould always read the great posts here about it, but never go. (Don't you hate when you do that??)

Anyway, I have been there now 3 times and I just LOVE it! The salads always seem so fresh, the shwarma is divine, and even the chicken (my mother had) last visit was so juicy. It's so cheap, too! Last visit there were 4 of us, 2 apps, 4 platter dinners, 1 dessert and 2 turkishcoffees...$ 75.00, and my mother and I took 1/2 of ours home. SOooo good!!

If you can, find the post on the place. I am so sure you will like it. There are only a few tables inside, so if you go on a Fri or Sat. you might want to eat a little earlier than normal. Last time we were there on a Sat. and by 7ish, the place was really busy, and people were waiting for tables.

          Anyhow, enjoy!!!

            Angelina,
I see two posts from you above ... I'm confused. Do both posts refer to Troy's? I think you're saying that you don't like Troy's, but you really like Ibby's. Is that correct?

            1. re: val ann c

oooppps!!! Sorry val!!! You are correct, I like Ibby's and never eat in Troy's...way tooooo dirty for me, plus I was so confused with Troy's menu of nations..ha ha!!

Sorry, but I hope this clears up the mess! :)

                Hi everyone,
Thanks for the feedback. You saved me a 45 minute drive! I will definitely try Ibby's at some point. I finally had an opportunity to dine at Zaitooni's in Red Bank and LOVED it. Even my husband, who is fussier than me, enjoyed it. Again, many thanks for the honest feedback. Anytime I have solicited opinions, I am always steered in the right direction. Many thanks!

Wooo---hoooo!!! You let us know about Ibby's...I probably should get a job doing their marketing because I simply LOVE the food!!!! haa haaa!!!

Don't ever drive 45 minutes to Perth Amboy for the League of Nations Menu...so not worth it!

                  Enjoy, rutgers2!!!

                  1. re: Angelina

LOL! Thanks so much again, Angelina. Will definitely tell Ibby's you sent me....they should at the very least comp you for all the referrals....Best regards. Let us know where your next culinary adventure will be.

Thanks rutgers! As you know..it is quite difficult to find a "new" culinary find in this area!! Drives me crazy. This is why I am happy Ibby's is so close to me!

Angelina- on your recommendation, we went to Ibby's on sunday at four. everything was great, but our favorite item was the falafel. we'll be back soon!
