London with a group, on a Saturday

  • 9

hello all,

I'm travelling to London next week with a group (11 girls and a guy - don't ask). We'll be there for a couple of days, and I've booked 2 lunches for myself (on my own or with one friend) that I'm very much looking forward to: at Bocca di Lupo and Hereford Road.

However, we'll be wanting to eat one dinner as a group, and me being the designated foodie, I'm the one who has to arrange it. So, dinner for 12, on a Saturday (to make things worse: NEXT Saturday) at a casual, fun place, good food, not too expensive (say, 40-50 pounds a head for food and wine).

We're staying near King's Cross and while it does not have to be within walking distance, we'd prefer it if it wasn't too far away.

Can anyone recommend such a place - somewhere we can go with a group like that without a reservation - or a place we can get a reservation at such short notice? the type of food is really not that important - as long as the food is good, and the place is not formal, nice atmosphere, etc.

thanks very much in advance.

  1. do you like sichuan cooking?

snazz sichuan on chalfont road is perhaps your best bet in that area.

I think I would like it, might be too spicy for some of us though. Also, it doesn't have to be that close to the hotel.. as long as it's not more than 20 minutes by subway or so...

not all sichuan dishes are spicy! the twice cooked pork, fish fragrant pork etc are all delectable. its truly a chance to get your friends to try something different from the usual bland take outs.

you'll be in marylebone in twenty minutes - and there you've got several options

Thanks howler. It's definitely a possibility. I love Sichuan food!

          Which options in Marylebone?

I've heard that whilst Snazz Sichuan is good, Chilli Cool in Bloomsbury is better, but I haven't been to either.

      2. Konstam at the Prince Albert is in Kings Cross and can cater for groups - either large tables or a private dining room

The food is all locally and seasonaly sourced (and delicious!) and the room is gorgeous.

You beat me to it... that's just what I was going to suggest.

Thanks guys. I booked a table at Konstam - I called them up and spoke to the owner who could not have been more friendly and accommodating. Will report back!

Reporting back.. we had a wonderful dinner at Konstam, food was great, and service, especially considering we were a rowdy group of 14 on a busy Saturday night, could not have been better. It´s a great place, informal and welcoming.
