Dinner in/near Barrington

I was planning a dinner for friends and was thinking about The Barn, but found out it is only a banquet/brunch place. Any suggestions for something on that par? I was not sure if there were any new places in the Arboreutum (sorry on that bad spelling). If not Barrington, I could do Schaumburg or anywhere near that also.

  1. There is a Francesca's outpost in Barrington where we've enjoyed many dinners w/family and friends. Nothing earthshattering but reliable food and good service. If you don't like what's on the day's menu, they'll happily make anything off the carryout menu or (usually) whatever you request if they have the ingredients.

    1. I've heard good things about Barrington Country Bistro, but haven't been there yet; it's on my list of places to try.

In Lake Zurich, D&J Bistro is still very good.

In Arlington Heights, Le Titi de Paris is still outstanding, if you like French food in an elegant but casual setting. There are some other good places in Arlington Heights for other ethnic cuisines, including Mexican (Fuego - ), Thai (altThai - ), and Greek (Yanni's - ).

The suggestions in Wauconda and Lake Zurich in this topic are also close to Barrington -

      2. My parents reside in Barrington. We love Amore Mio in South Barrington. It is in a strip mall, but is an upscale restaurant (on the small side), which has great house made pasta dishes and awesome bruschetta which comes as comp app. We love it, and are picky foodies. We also like The Bistro, but it has it's off nights. It offers a warm ambience with great salad lyonnais, and so on. We do not think the Francesca is good in Barrington at all--and it is really loud. (too bad, as we love the one in Bucktown). Schaumburg has more of the chain restaurants, so we do not eat there as much. Let us know where you end up!

That's really funny - just goes to show differences in preferences and experiences. We've also been to Amore Mio. I wanted so much to like it but unfortunately found it totally forgettable. Overpriced and too bright. What sticks in my mind is that they were playing religious music which seemed totally inappropriate. I can't imagine we would ever go back given so many other good Italian restaurants in the area (Schaumburg withstanding - it IS pretty much a chain wasteland and we rarely eat here either).

I guess it's good that we all like different things - means more diversity and success for more than just one restaurant!
