Dinner Sat. night near Circle Theater/Indy

Girlfriend and I are coming over from IL to hear a choral concert on 3/14, any recs in the vicinity of the Circle Theater? She prefers vegetarian, but will eat fish, and is open to most ethnicities. I am game for most anything. Thanks in advance!

    1. IMO, the best seafood restaurant in Indianapolis is just a block south of the theater on Meridian. It's called the Oceanaire. I've been there numerous times and always loved everything I've had; in fact, I like it as much as any seafood restaurant at home in Chicago, which is high praise indeed. If an early dinner works for you, IIRC they've had a special 3-course deal for lunch served up to 4:30 pm. www.theoceanaire.com

I've also enjoyed eating at 14 West, which is right around the corner from the Oceanaire, although it's been a little while since I've been there. Their menu is contemporary American, and they have some seafood and vegetarian items (some really good salads, too), but maybe not as many choices for your girlfriend as the Oceanaire. www.14westindy.com

Here's a parking tip. Parking is very inexpensive in the underground garage for the Circle Center, and very convenient to both the Oceanaire and 14 West as well as the Circle Theater. The Circle Center is an enclosed mall in downtown Indy. The entrance to the parking garage is on West Maryland Street, right after you cross Illinois Street, on the left directly underneath an enclosed walkway crossing over Maryland Street. (Maryland Street runs one-way eastbound at this point.) Both the Oceanaire and 14 West are located on the same block as the Circle Center, but their entrances are on the street (Meridian and Maryland, respectively), not on the mall. If you use the escalator from the parking garage, it takes you up to the inside of the mall, but if you use the stairwell, you'll walk out on the street right next to 14 West. Thanks for the recs...had heard of Oceanaire, though there are no prices on the website, I assume due to market prices fluctuating, I am assuming it is fairly pricey. The other rec is quite pricey. Seems from previous Indy trips that there are a few mid-range Italian trattoria type places near the mall, though names escape me. Can anyone help? Guess I am hoping for $15-20/person not counting, wine, tip, tax.

              C'mon Indy forumers...where are you?

Try Vito's on Penn (Pennsylvania Ave). It's directly behind the Circle Theater. Good, reasonably priced Italian. You can park at the garage for the Circle Theater for $3.00 and Vito's is in that building. Then walk from the restaurants back door into the back door of the theater. Enjoy the concert. We are going Friday night.

Concert was great...interesting programming! Ended up going to Palomino, a chain, I know, but pretty good. Too many places were slammed with the NCAA tournament going on, and I wanted to try to Scotty's, but they don't take reservations!
