Suggestions for restaurant in Portland ME

We are looking for a restaurant in Portland to have our son's 1st birthday at. Some place with a private room that can hold 25 - 30 people. We live in north central Maine and the family is all in MA so Portland is the middle ground. Thanks :)

  1. That's a tough one. I've heard that one of the better places, perhaps Fore St., has an upstairs room, but can't say for certain. In the summer, Caiola's has an outside covered location that will seat that many, but that won't be an option until June. Azure, in Freeport, does have a separate space that will hold that many, I think: food is adequate, but not top rank.

    1. Bull Feeney's - on the corner of Fore and Exchange Sts has a function room upstairs overlooking the old port. We've always liked the irish menu, and the bar is well stocked.

Also, Walters - just up Exchange from BF's - has an upstairs dining area that you can book for yourselves. The menu is more international.

Here's a link to their banquet page:

Some people might object to this recommendation, but I would look at the Marriott in South Portland.

The menus there are done by Dan Dumont of the Wentworth by the Sea. Their dinner menu is definitely not your typical 'hotel' fair out of a box like you'd expect at a Marriott.

Another benefit would be some of your guests could stay right there.

      2. Thanks for the suggestions, I think we are going to go and check out Bull Feeney's.

Other places are the pepperclub...might be tight but the food is great. Rivalries, RiRa's, saltwater grille, seagrass bistro (have heard can rent the whole place + amazing food) and empire dine and dance all have places to rent out.
