Narrows Center for the Arts in Fall River, MA

We will be attending a show at the Narrows Center for the Arts in Fall River, MA on Saturday. We've never been to Fall River and would like some suggestions as to where to eat before the show. Nothing fancy, mid-priced or lower, and close to the Narrows if possible. Thanks.

  1. theres a few real good portuguese restaurants within a few blocks, sagres on columbia st.,also a great portuguese market on same st.{chaves},theres a couple of places right there also.theTA on s. main st.,a block or 2 up columbia st. is good too .fall river is mostly portugese, the food is really good, people are friendly, and economically priced, cheap wine, grab a bottle for the show too, last time we went you could bring a cooler or whatever into the narrows,ok its been maybe a year or so,so im not actually sure on policy today.its a really great place to see shows, great spot, etc.,a bright shining star in fall rivers art scene.

Thanks for the tips, im hungry. We went to TA for dinner. Great food at a great price. We liked it so much that we plan to go back soon. I want to check out the local grocery and liquor stores. Any suggestions other than Chaves? I'd like to find a store with a butcher shop, if possible.

You're right about the Narrows. It's a fun place to go see shows that don't come around to the typical local venues. We plan another trip back there, also.

glad you had a good time.theres a market within a mile or to called Genes, they are on brighton ave, next door to a supreme gas station.Genes is a portuguese meat market that makes their own chourico[portuguese sausage],marcella[portuguese blood sausage]and all kinds of other things, they have the best chourico in fall river and new bedford, get the"spicy",awesome!!they also sell all types of meats and the such.they have a pretty good selection of wines as well, ports etc.,and really good prices to boot.the next block up brighton on the right is the st.johns club, where emeral lagasse got his start, ive never been, looks like lots of fried stuff which im not a huge fan of,plus emeral drives me crazy anyways.enjoy!!!

    2. Lucky you! Going to see Los Lobos, eh?

There's an interesting post on chowhound ( Chow in Fall River ) it goes back and forth on what's good in Fall River. Warning, it might be too much information.
