Large quantities of fried chicken

Whenever I needed a lot of fried chicken (parties, Mardi Gras, etc.), I used to go to the now-defunct Chicken Box on Claiborne. It was ridiculously cheap (albeit somewhat sketchy but I don't care about that), convenient to get to, fairly tasty, and I liked being able to tell people that if I had bought 1,000 pieces, I could have gotten a free wedding license. Since it's closed, I'm looking for a reasonably priced replacement.

Of course there's always Popeye's but it's more expensive (I mean not in the grand scheme of things but more expensive than Chicken Box). I went to a party recently where they had chicken from (I think) McHardy's. Any ideas for good places for large quantities of party-chicken?

Brother's fried chicken has filled the Chicken Box niche. Brother's has a few locations in gas stations, as well as one in the CBD just off of Canal (on Common, I think).

Yeah, it's at the corner of Common and Carondelet.

Funny you should ask- I was walking my dog the other day down Bayou Rd (towards Broad) and stumbled upon a corner store that smelled great...there was a line waiting for chicken. I checked out the menu posted outside and it was all manner of big chicken packages (100 wings/$25). Considering it's fairly off the beaten path and the line was huge I thought it might be a hidden gem. I'm going to check it out this week and will report back. It may have been called Cajun Kitchen or something similar. It was near the CocoHut

You are talking about McHardy's, near Bayou and Broad. Great chicken, great people, and great prices! I find it better than Chicken Box. The only other option that includes the 'sketchy' component is Manchu at Esplanade and Claiborne.
