Best Sushi in Ann Arbor?

I will be in Ann Arbor with my husband tomorrow night. WE love sushi, and are looking for the restaurant with the highest quality fish and best rolls. Are there any that have good ambience instead of the typical stark/minimalist decor?

Thank you!

  1. Best Japanese restaurant, with a lovely atmosphere, is Yamato in Kerrytown. However, sushi is not really their thing, although they do have some and it's good.

Ann Arbor, IMO, lacks a real knockout sushi bar, but I would go to either Yotsuba (Hogback north of Washtenaw) or Godaiko (Ann Arbor-Saline Rd. south of I-94, in second strip center, not the one with Target).

thanks! I was almost going to give up. It looks like most do not have a ton of sushi at their Japanese rest, and if so, it is just basic pieces.

Should we go to Pacific Rim for Asian fusion instead? Do you like it?

I'd rather go to Yotsuba or Godaiko over Pacific Rim.

I haven't been to Pacific Rim--just never worked out to go there. Many people in A2 swear by it.

Miki, which is downtown, is also pretty good and tends to have a fun atmosphere. If you enjoy sitting at the sushi bar and tossing back sake with strangers, that could be your place. Has some more exotic nigiri like monkfish liver.

Yotsuba by far, followed by Miki. But go to Yotsuba. It's close to the Toyota Technical Center so gets its share of demanding sushi customers. Godaiko is not my favorite, I've had dissapointing meals there before.
