Topsys Fried Chicken?

pasta Mar 4, 2009 07:11 AM

Is anyone familiar with this restaurant that was in West Roxbury many years ago?
A friend that lives at Marina Bay says that Skyline 'has hired their chef who was an expert in fried chicken". He is not changing the menu but adding several fried chicken dishes to it.

Does anyone recall the chicken from this place? I don't go to Skyline, for several reasons, but was wondering if this new chef's chicken is something worth considering?

I wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to get to Skyline. The "chef" is at best a line cook, and not a very good one at that. Their fried food is no great shake. They have successfully snatched defeat from the hands of victory. Don't waste you time.

The place is really sad on all levels. I wonder how they have been holding on.

That's disappointing. Up until this past summer, I had a boat at Marina Bay for years. Skyline and even the different names it was called prior to that one never seemed to get it right.

Wow I used to truck the old dudes chicken for him, may he rest in peace. I picked it up in Fanueil Hall if I remember, long before it went la da lat . The cook I remember must be long gone.Cant be the same chicken...........

Chicken was awesome. Bloody Mary's in the secret lounge in the back even better.Smoke was thick as mollasses. Rumor has if you brought the cook a six-pack of Heieneken, he'd give you a bucket. All this in the shadow of a chicken pleasuring himself. What ever happened to that neon sign?

I found this article googling the "fontaine's flapping chicken sign" after reading Skyline's ad about hiring the original chef from Fontaines/Topsy's and bringing back their famous fried chicken. I wonder if they know that Skyline is letting the secret out! Here's a link to the aritcle and a picture of the chicken sign with its owner and friends. I'm headed to Rick's Pub myself and it's nice to know that the neon chicken may pleasure himself once more (LOL trufflehound) and that it didn't meet a grisly demise!

Went to Skyline Sat nite. while the chicken isn't bad, it is NOT Topsy's/Fontaine's - not even remotely close.

So I guess this means the recipe is gone. I can't believe there was nobody left who knew the recipe. I'm so upset! I'm dying for those onion rings!

Oh, how we yearn for their chicken, squash, chicken livers, fried clams, steak and the list goes one.

My kids always called their sign the 'Flickin' Chicken' and from then on that's what we called the restaurant. : )
