(Grammatically surprising, I know, but traditionally, I think there's no "d" at the end of "shave.") Also not shave ice, but really good anyway are the homemade raspados at Raspados Zacateca (422 N. Ford Blvd., LA, (323) 264-7651). The crushed ice is coarser than shave ice, but the syrups are all homemade, with really nice flavors and little chunks of cooked fruit.
