I love shaved ice, but the only place I can find it is at Shaka's in Monterey Park and that is too far for me.
I live on the westside. Does anyone know a place out that way?

One thing I can tell you is the Lappert's in Hermosa Beach makes standard, American style snow cones, and not very good ones at that, and calls them shave ice. (Grammatically surprising, I know, but traditionally, I think there's no "d" at the end of "shave.")

Also not shave ice, but really good anyway are the homemade raspados at Raspados Zacateca (422 N. Ford Blvd., LA, (323) 264-7651). The crushed ice is coarser than shave ice, but the syrups are all homemade, with really nice flavors and little chunks of cooked fruit.

I live in Irvine and lived i Hawaii before. My kids missed it so much I went and bought a machine...a real block ice machine and I make em for my kids better than anything in Cali. I've made so many I think the machine has paid for itself, hehe!
