Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Manhattan

Eleven Madison Park Lunch

Unlike dinners, where one can basically get a 7 course meal from ordering their 3 course prix-fixe, there was no additional course served during lunch. After receiving the order, our server asked if we had any food allergies or dislikes, which made me think there would be some amuse-bouche or little extra courses coming. No such luck.

The menu has been revamped slightly. The octopus salad is still there, the veloute is now chicken veloute (very good) with sweetbreads and 3 slices of black truffle.

I had the suckling pig entree, which was totally different than the suckling pig entree I had as a dinner few months ago, It is still good, but not as memorable as the previous version.

Desserts are now brought in carts. All selections are tarts - we had chocolate caramel and mango something. They are both good, but not sensational. There's hardly any presentation to speak of.

I still enjoy EMP but I feel for the same amount of money, Jean Georges offers a slightly more refined experience with food that is just as good (or slightly better or worse, depending on one's taste) with a better, more showy dessert selections (even though it's only limited to four choices).

  1. Thanks for this brief review. I was going to make reservations for EMP next week (after much internal debate) since I've already been to JG, but after reading this, I think I will stick to my tried and true.
