New Mill in Southington

Went this past Saturday night for the first time. Cozy place with a roaring fire. Nice bar area which was packed up until midnight. Sat down next to the fire place with my guests and enjoyed a great bottle of 1994 Lynch Bages. Started with Veal meatballs for apps which were the closest thing to grandma's...shhhh! Moved on to the veal chops which were done perfectly. Side of goat cheese mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach rounded the plate out. Closed the meal out with a New York style cheese cake with mango puree...delicious. Nice job...service was impeccable! Bartenders friendly and knowledgeable about wine which made for great conversation. Kudos to the new owner and chef.

Glad to read your review. Goat cheese mashed potatoes sound fab. When New Mill first opened, someone in The Courant did a review and I've wanted to go ever since. I just don't get out that way very often. Did anyone in your party have steaks? I only ask because (if memory serves) the review in The Courant said the steaks there rivaled Ruth's Chris and I thought, REALLY? How good is "better" than EXCELLENT? :) Tell us more.

One person had a NY Strip....looked fab. I did not try it though. My friends travel and eat out a lot so I would consider them pretty well versed on steak houses.

I've been to the Mill and although I have not had steak at Ruth Chris, it is on par with some of the better steaks I've had.
