Sri Lankan Restaurants

I am still drooling over Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations culinary adventures through Sri Lanka. Are there any Sri Lankan restaurants in Boston?

  1. Someone had actually asked this question awhile ago. There aren't any restaurants in the Boston area that concentrate on Sri Lankan cuisine, unfortunately.

    1. I don't think there's any significant Sri Lankan population in Boston to speak of. I hear Toronto might be your closest option.

There are apparently some Sri Lankan restaurants in NYC.

Yup, there are several Sri Lankan restaurants on Staten Island....

Sunshowers that fall on my troubles
            Are over you, My baby
And Some Showers I'll be aiming at you
Cause I'm watching you, My baby

            Sorry, couldn't resist. I love me some M.I.A. :)

To keep it chow-related, do you think there are any Indian restaurants run by Sri Lankans? I ask this because, as a Nepali, I know many Nepalis who open Indian restaurants, serving the standard canon of muglai Indian food, and may serve a few Nepali dishes on the side. The reason for this is, of course, because Nepali food is not a well-known cuisine, and there is safety in opening an Indian restaurant, a well-known cuisine. Anyone know of any Sri Lankan restaurateurs on the DL?

Re NY: And discussion on today's board (Outer Boroughs? Or Manhattan?) about other Sri Lankan places in the city...

              1. re: fredid

What's that, fredid? Are you saying there's a discussion over there on that board?

I think there have been a thread or two in the past on the Outer Boroughs board about Sri Lankan places in S.I.

                1. re: hiddenboston

Hi hidden - Sorry for the confusion - I was responding to you above, but when my reply was posted under Prav's, it didn't make sense...

Here's the link: This thread (as you mentioned, there are earlier threads on SI) mentions a place in Manhattan, and a place in Flushing.

So now we just have to get some Sri Lankan mama to open a Boston place!

                  1. re: fredid

Wouldn't that be nice? It'd surely beat driving 220 miles to S.I.

And at least one in Jamaica Queens.

There is at least one good one in Ottawa - slightly closer...
