Trulucks, Aboretum for Happy Hour

My husband took me for a date to Trulucks last night. We intended to have dinner but wanted to stop by the bar for a drink.

The bar is lovely, as was the bartender, Kara. She was very well versed on the menu and pleasant to speak with. While we were talking with her, we learned that their Monday through Friday Happy Hour is all day Sunday. I prefer appetizers to a full meal so, after looking the menu over, we decided to stay in the bar, enjoy the piano player and the somewhat romantic feel as there were not a lot of people at that time on Sunday.

After hub's martini, which he described as "very clean" and my beer, we had a Tuna Tartar Tower and Crab Cakes. The tower was really tasty and the presentation was fun. It included crab, avocado and sashimi grade tuna stacked to form a tower. This is served with shrimp chips (little chip-like cups) for spooning the tower into. There was some kind of soy flavored sauce with it. It tasted very fresh and we will be back for more, especially in the summer time. The crab cakes were very crabby... very little filler but decent amount of seasoning. We were served two of the smallish cakes which could not hold together once they were cut into. This is not a bad thing, especially since there was a nice sauce on the plate and plenty of shrimp chips to scoop the mostly crab mixture up. Hub's said the crab cake was likely the best he'd ever had.

Here is their happy hour menu, which I don't think is complete because I do not see the crab cakes on there:

I'm so happy with our discovery!
