Chow at Ossington/Dundas

Mike from Hamilton Mar 2, 2009 04:30 AM

On Thursday night, I have an event in the Dundas/Ossington area and was wondering if there were any decent or Chow-worthy places to grab dinner in the area?

Not looking for anything fancy as I'm headed to the Dakota Tavern for a friend's show that evening.

Why not eat at the Dakota?

because it's really not very good at all.

my pick would be to go north towards the bloor area for ethiopian or a bit more west from ossington for pho phuong (though the least delicious but still rather tasty dish there is pho!).

There are a couple of pho places down Ossington, including Golden Turtle.

I vote for Golden Turtle. Cheap, quick and tasty.

The food is better at TienThanh down the street, imo at least.

Decor is very bare bones, even more so than Golden Turtle.

Entirely possible. I just love that GT has vegetarian pho.

They're both good, but I did enjoy my meal at TienThanh a bit more. Dang, now I must go out in that area again some time soon, the craving for good Vietnamese food is setting in.

I've been to Foxly and Pizza Libretto and enjoyed both. However, neither place takes reservation so depending on the time you'll be eating there may be a long wait.

Head a little east to Black Hoof.

Black Hoof is a great place! However, you have to really be into meat, you have to be ok with a very small menu and willing to wait. It is always packed and it is a small space. On the Thursnight, it wait could be a rather long time.

Delux, Foxley, Pizza Libretto, Phils (college and ossington), Odd Fellows (Queen and Shaw)

You won't get into Libretto unless you want to line up, you could try that burger spot BQM it's pretty good, Lakeview is brutal, Golden Turtle is pretty good, you should get a tuna sandwich at coffee time and call it a night

Go a bit north to College, and you can enjoy a great smoked meat at Caplansky's in the Monarch Tavern on Clinton, south of Dundas.(really not that far from Ossington/Dundas, even if you're walking, and hey - it helps you walk off dinner!).

This is an older post and this question will probably get missed, but I didn't want to start a new thread for an area that seems to already have a lot. My question is regarding delivery in the area. I just moved to the neighborhood,(Dundas & Ossington) and have hit most of the restaurants mentioned here, but for those lazy or late nights - any good place(s) to order from? - any price range, any category would be great.

imo, you'd be better off starting a new thread and be very specific about what you're looking for, and be specific in the title as well.
