Brickwall, Asbury Park
Checked out Brickwall in Asbury Park last night. Very crowded and hard to find parking. Great hangout type of place. The three of us started with the Stuffed Artichoke. Very flavorful but the artichoke needed to be cooked more. The leaves were hard to tear off and were a little tough.
I had two sliders and a side of mac and cheese. Mac and cheese was nice and cheesy. Sliders were a little greasy but very good. My one friend had sweet potato fries that were pretty good. Other friend had the pulled pork sandwich. I took a bite of the pork and it was also good.
For dessert we shared the peanut butter pie. This was heavenly, very dense and gigantic. Very good.
NIce place overall, not the best meal I've ever had but good, cheap eats. I would definitely go back here again.

Yes, we love this place too, great food at fair prices. I do not like the fact that there is always lots of people smoking out front and to get in this place you have to walk through a cloud of SMOKE. They should make everyone go down the road a bit to smoke.

I love Brickwall. I moved to NJ last August and have been so disappointed in the dining choices. I live in Red Bank and the food is way more expensive than I'm used to. I moved from Portland, OR and lived in Minneapolis before that; so, I'm used to having access to good, high quality food at reasonable prices.
I go to Brickwall for the turkey dinner. It's excellent. The mac and cheese is pretty good. I had the sloppy joe and while it wasn't the best one i've ever had; it was good and I'd order it again.
I have to agree with you about the smoking out front. I tried to eat out there this past weekend and couldn't because it was so smokey.
It's also pretty noisy in there.
I have found that a weeknight evening is the best time for ME to go to Brickwall. It tends to be a little bit quieter; the wait staff is not as stressed; and overall it's just more pleasant.
The smoke won't keep me from going but this summer when I want to be outside more I probably won't choose them.

Yes, i agree about the noise, it's just too much, more of a bar/hangout loud crowd rather than a quiet dinner place. I agree with you about the food, it's great. However, I do not enjoy having to walk through aand inhale a cloud of smoke just to get inside this place to eat, it's not worth it. They should not allow people to hang out in front and smoke, they should have to go down the road to the grassy area and smoke.

Yes, definitely, take a moment as a loyal customer and tell them about how much walking through the smokers bothers you. If they do not change, then it is your choice, your freedom, whether or not walking through the smoke to get your eats is worth all of the frustration.Ahhhh FREEDOM!
Random Side Note: Was driving past here at some point several weeks ago, and they were standing RIGHT smack, in front of the door smoking, I thought of all your posts.

I ran into the chef and manager of Brick Wall at a food show this weekend. The chef told me i've gotta try their shrimp and grits so i'll swing by for a taste.
But in general, they have a great beer selection at a great price (Stone IPA on tap!) and somewhat decent food. For whatever reason I find myself flipping through their menu and deciding I don't want anything on it though...

Yup, this place has the best beer selection i can think of in our area, and the best prices. can't beat that.
As far as their food - finally tried the shrimp and grits, thought it was just meh.
My gf ordered chicken fingers and some of them were completely raw in the middle...
Friend's mac and cheese was tasty.
Ordered a plate of fried peppers....what a joke. it's just a couple of sauteed peppers for like 6 bucks..
But the Stone IPA I was drinking was cheap and most delicous! :D

I could not agree more - I love comfort food - meatloaf and potatoes with gravy. The turkey chili is also very good.
