Good lunch/dinner places near Northwestern Law?

Hi All,

I'm looking for good lunch and dinner recommendations near Northwestern Law School (375 East Chicago Avenue). We definitely don't mind walking a bit though if you've got a recommendation that's nearby but not too close. Italian is probably our top choice and then we're pretty much game for anything else as long as it's tasty!

Thanks!

  1. For Italian, go to Cafe Spiaggia, at Michigan and Oak. Best mid-priced Italian in the city. Their website at www.cafespiaggia.com includes the Cafe as well as Spiaggia, which is super-expensive (so make sure you're looking at the right part of the website). Open for lunch and dinner.

Beyond Italian and Cafe Spiaggia, there are many many other excellent choices in the area just west of there, around Michigan Avenue. It just depends on what other kinds of food you enjoy - steaks (Saloon, Gibson's), seafood (Hugo's), pizza (Gino's East, Giordano's, Pizano's), fine dining (Avenues, TRU, NoMI), contemporary American (Cafe des Architectes), tapas (Emilio's Sol y Nieve), etc.

If you're looking for a *cheap* place to have lunch in the immediate area, there's a recommendation for the cafeteria at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in the discussion at http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/592130 You can also walk south on Fairbanks to Illinois Street and Fox & Obel, our premier gourmet food store, with the finest in fresh meats, seafood, cheeses, prepared foods, baked goods, salads, sandwiches, etc. There's a cafe in the rear of the store where you can get anything from a cup of coffee to a full meal, prepared to order. www.fox-obel.com
