Can't post my first reply
I just joined and I hit reply to OP on this thread: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/594291
and got a page that said
Get Houndin'
Once AnyaPerfumer starts posting around the boards there will be something interesting here.
I'm guessing I should have gotten a page with a space for me to type my reply and hit send. Any idea what's going on?

I clicked on the link, then clicked on reply and got the "box" in which to type my reply. You can email moderators@chowhound.com if no one has a suggestion.
Is your second sentence/paragraph a joke???

No, that Get Houndin' etc bit was very odd. I'll go check if I can post now.

I can post now. I guess I'm Houndin' and now there's something interesting here. Or not. ;-0

You were taken to your profile page, and since you didn't have any posts yet you got the standard "placeholder" message.

I just registered and can not figure how to post a question.

If it is a new question, at the top of the board that you wish to post on is a button that says "ADD NEW POST" , just click the button and post your question (the same way you posted here).
If you are asking a question within a thread you will see a set of links at the bottom of a post that say "Permalink | Report | Reply" - click on reply to write your question, then click the "POST MY REPLY" button.

Just to add/clarify -- if you are replying within a post and you hit "reply" under the last person in the post, your question will appear as though you are responding to that last person. If you want to add a general reply to the original poster or a question that isn't specifically to another responder, you should hit the "Reply to original post" button at the bottom.

Isn't this a joke because obviously s/he posted in order to ask this question??? My leg got pulled once on something similar here :)

Not necessarily -- replying and starting a new thread are fairly different. Some people can do one easily enough, but have trouble finding their way to the board index page to do the other.
You can find a list of all boards in the Chowhound menu, or by clicking on the word Chowhound to take you to the front page. Pick the one you want to post on, and then choose add new post, as hannaone said. If you're already reading a thread, and you want to start a new post on the same board, you can click on the name of the board at the top of the thread, or 'back to the X board' at the bottom to go back to the index, as well.

Sorry, this is my second senior moment this morning. I'm clearly multi-tasking beyond my ability. Thanks for catching me.

I am lost too and hope I have found a way to ask a food question: I bought a few smoked fish from a storefront in Chinatown. How do I turn them into food?

Your question is appropriate for our Home Cooking board: http://chowhound.chow.com/boards/31 If you follow Jacquilynne's instructions in her post above, you will be able to both start a thread asking your question on the Home Cooking board, and see links to all Chowhound's boards, so you can find the best one for any food issue you'd like to discuss.

The best place for questions like this is on the Home Cooking Board:

Click on the "Add New Post" button and ask your question. There are a lot of helpful hounds who frequent that board and just love to share tips.

I have the same problem. I can post here just fine, but I can't reply. Just registered this evening.

I can reply here, but I can't reply to an actual food thread, too. (Let's see if posting here fixes that...)
P.S. Nope--it didn't. I still get taken to my profile page when I try to start a new real food topic or reply to a real food topic.
P.P.S. Looks like maybe I needed to reload the paeg I'd been reading, post-signup, first.

I git the same message but apparently it works here at this moment. I try not to breath too loud incase my luck runs out. It must be a glitch. I 'll try the other and see if it works
