What markets in the SFV carry hamantashen fillings like pruce and poppy seed. I actually got some recipes for the dough and fillings from previous posts but just in case they dont work out....
Cambridge Farms on Burbank west of Laurel Canyon has several fillings for hamantashen. I just happened to notice them the last time I was there a week ago. I love this market ...especially if I am making middle eastern or eastern European recipes . Their prices are great and the selection of hard to find ingredients is unsurpassed. The kosher bakery next door is also one of the best around. Have fun....!
If I'm not mistaken, I believe I've bought the canned poppyseed filling at Von's and Ralp's (in the Jewish section) and I think I've seen it at Cost Plus. BTW, the hamantashen at Continental Bakery (which is the bakery next to Cambridge Farms delishdonna is referring to) are good when they have them but I just bought some at Bea's in Tarzana which were delicious.
Hi, Eema's Grocery on Ventura Blvd. in Woodland Hills carries the poppyseed filling, which is also called "mon" in the Ashkenazic World. You can also find it in many other Persian & other Ethnic Groceries. There is one on Ventura Blvd. near Winettka, & there is one about 2 blocks South of Fallbrook Mall on the West side down Fallbrook Ave. If you are trying to make different types, I recommend trying the more Sephardic fillings of Chestnut Cream (Maron) or Almond Paste/Marzipan. Best, JET
I found cans of apricot, poppyseed (munn), and almond on the close-out rack at Vons on PCH at Sunset, for $2.50 a can. But too late, suckahs -- I bought 'em all!
