I'm looking for the "best" version of tikka masala. I've tried quite a few, but none have been as good as my favorite. When I lived in Spain, of all places, the Indian restaurant there had a wonderful version that was topped with big flakes of fresh coconut, so I'm guessing that they put coconut milk into theirs. Not sure if that is authentic or not. Any good recipes to share? Thank you.

ATK has a delicious recipe for tikka massala. The boneless breasts are marinated in yogurt w/ garlic, ginger etc., then broiled, cut up and added at the end to the sauce. They said to toss the marinade mix, but I just threw it into the sauce and let it boil for a bit. An excellent, if time consuming dish. adam

Here's my favorite tikka masala recipe: http://www.whats4eats.com/poultry/murgh-tikka-masala-recipe
I agree with alkapal that coconut milk isn't authentic. The version you had may have been just garnished with coconut flakes without incorporating coconut milk into the sauce.
