Help! Need to find a place that can hold a wedding reception for over 150. I prefer the DC Area but Northern VA or Bethesda area would be fine too.

I would like the place to have good food with nice surroundings. I have already looked at a bunch of hotels and they are asking way too much! I also looked at museums but their site fees alone are high. We are trying to keep this to a reasonable budget despite the amount of guests...thanks for any help......

There are a lot of threads on this, but my suggestion:

Check the private clubs, the food will still be good, the prices are normally a bit less. Washington Club, Metropolitan Club, Georgetown Club, Mansion on O had great food at a wedding I was at there.

Also try Tabard Inn, 2941 in Falls Church, Zola, Le Paradou, Brasserie Beck, I have found their rental fees and minimums to be less. Also there are lots of very good caterers for spaces? Think about like that Garden in Vienna, I have been to some beautiful wedding there?

The hotels are ridiculous, I looked into that. The one space that wasn't so bad was the DAR building, but some of the museums are very high. Also I think both the Washingtonian and Washington Post have lists on this, and there are magazines with lists of good places too?

I have no idea how much it costs (although they did have a definite budget) but my best friend had a similar size wedding at the City Club this past October and it was beautiful. Plus the food was very good (I'm pretty sure they used the in house caterer). The building is very art deco and has an old-school DC feel without feeling stuffy or dated.

Certainly worth checking out.

5 years ago we held our wedding ceremony and reception at the old mansion at Strathmore in Bethesda. It is a great old building with large rooms, indoor and outdoor areas, and it is an active art gallery, so there is always interesting artwork on the walls. We used our own caterer -- Festive Foods -- and it was a great venue. www.strathmore.org
