Great Performances Catering

Hoping I might be able to get some feedback on Great Performances Catering. Thinking of having my wedding at Wave Hill, where Great Performances is the exclusive caterer. However, I've had very poor experiences with the food served at Dizzy's at Jazz at Lincoln Center, which Great Performances also manages. I believe that Dizzy's is managed both by Great Performances and by Spoonbread (another caterer), and was just wondering if Great Performances flying solo is any better. I like the Wave Hill location, but food is very important to me and so I'm thinking of turning it down for a location where I can bring in my own caterer (like Hudson Yards). Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

I have been looking at doing an event with them. I can say that they are very interested in negotiating- but that doesn't answer your questions.
Ask if you can get invited to the client event that they are doing.

Although I have never been to Dizzy's I just went to a dinner they did down town for valentines day. I have to say the food was phenomenal. They did a 3 course meal full of exciting twists and turns that really explored flavor. My date and I had so much fun, if they coudl cater my wedding half as well I would be a happy bride.

My hunch is that they probably have different departments chefs and requirements to deal with when they are doing a private function vs. a location...

well good luck and I hope you find what you are looking for

We have attended a couple of events catered by Great Performances, the food was really average but great waitstaff. Why not try one of the smaller boutique caterers? We use Cayenne Catering and love them

I second that. They were originally a staffing company, I believe, and their waitstaff are usually very experienced and polished. The food is very run of the mill.

jkrell -- did you end up going with Wave Hill and GP? Wha'ts your opinion? Otherwise, what did you choose? Thanks

Sorry SportEater! Just seeing this 8 months later. We had the wedding at Blue Hill at Stone Barns, and it was absolutely perfect.

For excellent (all organic) food with artistic presentation I highly recommend Green Table, in Chelsea market. I've been to small and larger events that they have done and was totally iimpressed with the food and presentation. The woman who owns it seems sincerely interested in the event and wants happy clients. Bonne chance!
