Rawhide or Pinnacle Peak in Scottsdale area

Ok you Southwest Hounds. Which should we choose to go to with just 7 nights in the area? It seems they are similar..... Got 2 kids and ready with that neck tie if Pinnacle!!!!

Depending on where you will be staying, there is another similar establishment, Rustler's Roost at the Grand Resort. This WAS the Hilton South Mountain. If you are at all north, it would be out of your range, though closer than Rawhide is now.

I've only done "events" there, and am less a fan of this sort of restaurant, but have to say that their food was surprisingly good.

I would avoid Rawhide at all costs. At 9 and 13 your kids will be old enough to notice the fake cowboy shootouts and decrepit camel rides are depressing and sad. My nieces and nephews always ask to go to Rustlers Rooste when they visit. There is some kid stuff to do- an old getaway slide, live music & dancing, a bull, great mt. top view of Phx, outdoor firepits, and they keep the food simple- plain grilled steaks and such, so its not bad, just uninspired. I've not been to Pinnacle Peak or Greasewood, so I can't compare. The kiddos also love Ranch Market, something about the endless rows of cakes, tortilla conveyor belt and poking the beef tongues, or maybe it's the dinner of bacon wrapped hot dogs and adult approved milkshakes (licuados). Not to replace the cowboy dinner, but would be fun on a different night.

I agree, Rawhide is entertaining for younger children only. Rustler's rooste is also a fun place for dinner and does have great views.

Thanks for all the ideas. Guess now I have to narrow it down between Greesewood, Pinnacle, Ranch Market and Russlers. Any one better than the rest or all on the same level?

I like Greasewood Flats a lot. Great burgers. Fun to sit out on a nice day with a burger and beer and enjoy the music. (I wish I had the time to head up there this afternoon to be honest, it's the perfect day for a visit to Greasewood Flats!) I've seen lots of families when we've been up there during the day. That said, personally, I probably wouldn't take kids out there at night. The atmosphere becomes more barlike. YMMV on whether it's kid appropriate(disclaimer: I also am not a parent).

My nephew loved Rustlers Roost when he was younger, about the age your kids are. Like others here we've had mostly good experiences there.

Haven't been to Pinnacle. Ranch Market is good fun and good food. Totally different experience than any of the others.

If I had to pick one...well I'd hit Greasewood flats for lunch and then Ranch Market for dinner. But...another disclaimer would be I'm not much of a steak eater. If you really want the Western experience and steak I'd take Rustlers Roost over Ranch Market. Looking for a good fiesta then pick Ranch Market, particularly on the weekends when the mariachi are playing at Tradiciones.

Would Rawhide be good for a 3 1/2 and 5 year old and grandpa who likes wester movies?
Is the food here decent? The adults are $45 and kid are $19 age 4-12.

I was looking for a cookout type atmosphere with entetainment and heard that this place was suppose to be much better then the smaller scale one out in Sedona

No one promoting this on Chow?

I have never been to Rawhide, so I cannot comment. I would think that Rustler's Roost at the Pointe South Mountain would be good, but it is more of a restaurant, than a "cookout."

Unfortunately, most of my similar incursions have been for events, and held at resorts, like Los Caballos in Wickenburg. Again, each was a "staged" event for the group that we had attending. This is different than a family dining out.

Sorry that I cannot really help, but I am surprised that more folk have not chimed in.

                    Good luck,

                    Hunt

                      Thanks bill
There isnt alot of details on Trip Advisor as well just suggestions to go there.

On here it said it is too corny for older kids but good for younger ones. My dad loves western so we wanted to go there for him as well.

My husband and I took my nephew to Rawhide several years back - when it was still at the Scottsdale location. Nephew had a grand time, I think he was 8 at the time. Dinner was nothing memorable at all.

Recently was at Rustler's Rooste, mentioned above, for a bday event. The food is nothing exciting but it's not horrible. You'll get all the western ambiance, etc. Views are great as well which is an added bonus. Kids will have a good time with the slide. Plus, if you're doing this soon you won't have to deal with being outside in the high temperatures.

                          WE are going in October.
I will look into the Rustlers Rooste.

Consider Greesewood Flats, which is also in North Scottsdale. It is a unique atmosphere, and the food is really good (as long as you like hamburgers, or cheeseburgers, or hamburgers).

We took a visitor there, and they loved it (we did too).

Is this also up in the mountains with the atmosphere that Pinnacle Peak has?

It is in the very close to Pinnacle Peak Patio, and has the same "mountain" feel. It is extremely casual, and really fun.

Both are fun, but you know Rawhide is no longer in Scottsdale, right? Rawhide is just south of the I-10 and Ray in Ahwatukee while Pinnacle Peak is on the entire other side of the phoenix area in north Scottsdale. IF location doesn't matter to you then I would say it depends on the age of your kids because Pinnacle Peak is a fun place to eat but Rawhide has fun things to do for smaller kids(although I can't comment on the food there).
