Best Fish market in Stamford

Want fresh with a great variety but not too expensive, also love homemade stuffed clam, clam, lobster and shrimp cakes etc. Will go as far as Norwalk too, thank you.

  1. New Wave on Camp Ave. Selection is a bit limited, but fresh, cheap, and of course, for you....CLEAN :-)

    1. I like Pagano fish market in Norwalk. It sells to both restaurants and the general public. The fish and seafood is always fresh. They have Gulf shrimp, and usually crab cakes etc.

      1. i go to stamford seafood on high ridge road. it's a mom and pop place.

It is run by a Japanese family who know their fish. Very good and fresh, but their prices are much higher than New Wave, which is my go to place in Stamford. The counter guys are very helpful can deskin an Arctic Char in a millisecond., and have great prices on Lobster

Fjord Fisheries in Cos Cob, recently moved from River Road to a beautiful new store on Route 1, has the most extensive selection in the area. And good sushi as well. But higher prices than New Wave.

There's also the fish dept. at Scotts Corner Market, and their weekly specials may be worth the trip.

i believe the family at stamford seafood is korean (but i've been wrong before). i've met mom, dad, son, daughter at the store. they will obtain whatever seafood you need. lovely family, very fresh fish.

I also love Stamford Seafood - best place to go for fresh fish; i've been going for years and and have no need to try any other place - it just coudn't compare!!

              1. re: luckyelaine43

that it's almost walking distance from my house and I still have never been is a shame. I'll change that next time I'm on a fish run...

Very, very sad to report that the owner of Stamford Fish and Seafood told me the store will be closing permanently after 10/26/13. The rent got too high. I will truly miss the excellent and friendly service and wonderful selection. Rumor has it that a cupcake place is coming into the space--how awful is that??

New Wave is jfood's place in Stamford but he lives near Scotts and is always there.

Tonight a beautiful piece of Tuna on sale at $6.99/lb. :-)))

              1. re: jfood

tuesday was new orleans style bbq shrimp ($12/lb for the protein at stamford seafood) and a baguette.

          2. First choice is Fjord. Beautiful fish and best selection in town.
Be sure to grab some Marlin Dip & pickled jalapenos out of their fridge. It might be the best appetizer ever.

            Second choice is New Wave.

That is where I want to go but isn't so expensive? But I am sure they have a great variety.

              1. re: nbermas

If you want less expensive - go to Stews. They have a nice selection and they also have their "naked" fish which is often on sale.

                1. re: amanda3571

What is naked fish, that sounds really funny. I went to NY and in Grand Central they have this place Wild Edibles, and I got some smoked salmon it was delicious and theie fresh fish and other goodies looked very good. I do like Stews's fish and prices!

Love the smoked marlin and pickled jalapenos. Guests always love it and would never guess it was marlin.

              3. When it comes to fish and you want have to pay a premium. That being said the only place I buy fish is BonTon in Greenwich.
