I think Gilbert's is out of business. Suggest you try French Country Inn - Good wine list and a somewhat creative, well-prepared menu.

Hello, everyone. Long-time lurker, first-time poster. Lifelong resident of Walworth County.

I have been to Gilbert's a few times, and it's always exquisite. The mansion on the lakefront is a beautiful setting, the staff attentive, and the chef takes great care with the ingredients and the preparation. The building is for sale, but the restaurant is not.

Kirsch's Restaurant at the French Country Inn is also an excellent choice. Not sure if it is still on the menu after the chef change, but I particularly like(d) the kona coffee-crusted beef.

Tempura House in downtown Lake Geneva for sushi. Retains some of the charm of its 1860s brick home setting.

If you can go further afield...
Cafe Calamari in Williams Bay. (Italian) (www.cafecalamari.com
)BJ Wenkters in Burlington. Don't be put off by the old tavern setting - the food inside is fine dining (odd combination, but it works) (http://www.foodspot.com/bjwentkers/#)

I recently read a very good review of this place. I haven't been there but you may want to check it out:
