cheap whole fish?

kimmich Feb 24, 2009 12:44 PM

I'm a culinary student and I need to practice filleting some whole flounders. Does anybody know where I can get them cheap that are relatively fresh? Midtown west locations would be best but I can travel. Thanks in advance!

What about that fish market on 9th avenue in back of Port Authority?

Yes, I strongly second "that fish market on 9th avenue in back of Port Authority."
I shop there every month, yet I can never seem to remember its name!!

Update: Sea Breeze Fish Market, 541 Ninth Ave. @ 40th St.

How much would a flounder go for at that fish market (and lobsters if they have them)? I bought flounder for dinner just a few weeks ago in Chinatown and was amazed to pay only $1.99/lb.
