Just got back and thanks for the help.
Friday night we had dinner (by accident as LaCucina was too crowded) at Parillos Armory Grill- from the outside it was a dive but inside very nice and the food was excellent. Classic Italian. Great atmosphere and excellent wait staff.
Saturday breakfast at the Windmill diner was very good. And very inexpensive.
For lunch we went in search of the main Street Deli at pirogies. What we found was the Church street deli but they are closed on Saturdays... Ended up with slices of Pizza from Riverside Pizziaria. They were good but not pirogies...

I know those pierogies! And they are fantastic (my favorites are the ones with sauerkraut). I just put in a rush call to my Dad (who is the one who always buys them), and he said that he thinks the place is called the Main Street Deli. He said that it is located on Route 67 - if you follow Rt. 67 out of downtown, you'll go up a hill. At the top of the hill, it is on your left in a "grubby" building.
        Well worth it!

Thanks. I will make it a #1 priority to hit them while in town.

It has been forever since I ate in that area but I think there are a few places outside of amsterdam, the Cock and Bull and the Coloniel Inn but I am not sure how close to the city proper....they may not even still be open.

          A classic, atmospheric Italian-American place:

          Parillo’s Armory Grill
          67 Bridge St
          Amsterdam, NY 12010

Cock and Bull still open, but its in Galway (a bit of a drive from Amsterdam). I've heard a lot of people talk about Rainwaters but have never been there.

You might be thinking of Raindancer, a nice, family steak, etc. place. Up Route 30, probably a 10-15 minute drive north of Amsterdam. Another old local favorite is the Crystal Bar for pizza, etc.

That's it! Raindancer. Is it good? Have never tried it but its close to my home.

Yes, was always kind of a steak house but for the area, good.
