Tips for using an unglazed tagine (split from San Francisco Bay Area board)

Have you used an unglazed tagine? My wife just bought me one in Morocco, but didn't get any instructions on use. I don't want to screw it up the first time. How do you use yours?

Thanks for the info on seasoning. What about cooking? Stovetop? Oven?

Tagines are a stove-top device. But if you have one that is clay, you have to get a diffuser if you use it on an electric stove. Gas is fine, but straight on an electric burner and it will probably crack.
