It is okay. We dropped by for sustenance after the tour at St. George Spirits/ Hangar One on Saturday 2/21. We have never looked at the Pizza menu, as we go for The New Zealander experience. I had a grilled ham, cheese and tomato sandwich on focaccia with a side salad. The flavors were good, but the tomatoes made everything soaking wet, which I hate. My date had the steak with vegetables and a side salad (substituted for potatoes with a smile). He said it was fine. Not a driving over from Oakland dinner, but decent for a mid-afternoon meal.
As an aside, has anyone been to the gastropub reincarnation of the Fireside?

I'm confused when you say "we go for the New Zealander experience". At which did you eat, the New Zealander or Crolls pizza? They are two different restaurants even though they're both in the Crolls building. I didn't think Crolls had anything other than pizza, although maybe I'm wrong. I would rate the pizza as about on par with Round Table. It's fine, but there are much better options.

I'm also curious about the new Fireside. I find something a little off-putting about that space (too sterile, maybe? can't articulate it), but I could certainly be coaxed back by good food.

Croll's Pizza changed owners two years ago, so maybe things have changed in the meantime. According to the article I linked, it also serves paninni and hot wings.

          Do they share a kitchen?

No, they are two separate restaurants with two separate kitchens. The meal you had sounds like the New Zealander. Melanie, that article makes it sound promising. I don't remember when I last ate there, but I'm guessing it was before the current owners. It's right down the street from me; I'll have to check it out. I also love that they deliver by bike for locations nearby .

The above confusion may be because the NZ, when it moved in, kept the big Croll's sign up and only has their real name on the windows.

It would be great to read a first mouth report on what's new at Croll's.

ditto to that. I used to love Croll's pizza by the slice as a kid. They would pile on the toppings and bake the individual slices to order. I'm pretty sure things have changed, and that cute girl behind the counter is gone.

Well, I haven't been yet. They aren't open for lunch during the week, which kind of foiled my plans. Still plan on going very soon.
