Anything Like Martino's Tea Cakes in Chicago?

okayreid Feb 23, 2009 11:15 AM

I am searching desperately for a tea cake like the ones from Martino's Bakery in Burbank, CA ( http://www.martinosbakery.com ). They won't ship them, and all blogs point to there being no known recipe for making them at home. Is anyone in the Chicago area familiar with a tea cake like this? is it possible that something comparable might exist in the Chicagoland area?

Can you describe them for us, and tell us how they differ from a conventional cupcake?

Any one remember The Fairy Tail Bakery on Pico,WLA? They had the best tea cakes. Then in 2000 I found Von's or ralphf's markets on Los Felize ,then no more:(. Am still looking,Any help out there? THANKS. MEG C.

Would they be fresh if the Tea Cakes were shipped to you? Would they have to be sent overnight delivery? I live about 10 miles from Martino's and while I've eaten some of their cakes I've never had these!
