Questions on Photos & Link To
I just did a rather long series of posts to the Elsewhere in America board. As has been my workflow with multiple restaurant reviews, I post an initial lead-in, and then post the individual restaurant reviews as "replies" to that lead-in. I always add a Link to Place (has been in beta for most of those). This time, I realized that not only did the Link To Place propagate in the upper right frame, as normal, but each Link also displayed in each "reply," so reply 1 had one Link, reply 2 had two Links, etc. until reply #9 with all Links applied to it. This is not what used to happen, and not what I had expected. Did I do something wrong, or differently? If so, how can I make sure that I only get the Link to Place to appear in its reply, but the total Links to propgate to the upper right frame?
Next, while watching this, and trying to work the Link to Place problem, I unwittingly left my photo links intact, so that I had the last four photos "attached" to the last two "replies" that should NOT have had the photos. This was MY mistake, but I could not use Edit to correct it. I did "Report" the posts to the MODs, with details of what I did wrong, and wished to change. Is there some edit mode that I could have used to remove those repeat photos?
Thanks for any input, or instructions.

Sorry to have a duplicate post on this subject, but the site hung and I finally had to Ctrl-Alt-Del, and "kill" the IE process. When I did so, this article showed as not being posted, so I assumed that it had not been.
As for constant site hangs, I have replied to that thread with all observations that I could make, in hopes that the tech group can gain insight into what is causing these.
Sorry for the double post,
Hunt

Wow, that's a strange situation. I'll see if I can duplicate it.

Oh, hrmm, I do see that when I make a second reply on this thread, the 'link to a place' from my first reply is still there -- though I have the opportunity to remove it at this stage, from the looks of it.

But if I just add another place, I'm sure it ends up as yours did.

Now I'm going to remove all of the Place links from here, since they are real Places and I don't want their place pages to end up messy.

Yeah, this happens when you reply to your own posts. It doesn't actually put the link in the wrong place ... so the link for reply 1 goes to reply 1 and the link for link 2 goes to link 2 though it doesn't appear that way at the time.
This started to show up a few weeks ago, maybe 2 or 3.
The work around if it gets too confusing is just to exit the post and reopen it for each replay ... reply, link, save, exit, re-open ... reply, link, save exit, reopen ... etc

That sounds like a workaround that I can put to use. Back when Link to Place was still in beta, I do not recall this exact thing happening, and was a bit "blind-sided" by it.
Since the CH site has been hanging on me so much, exiting and re-opening might just be the idea. Heck, I have to do that every few minutes anyway. I was surprised that I got all of the reviews in the Elsewhere in America/Maui post up without one hang! Where's a good hang, when you need one?
Thank you both for the replies. I will now be a bit more aware, when using Link to Place (non-beta), and will do things differently.
Appreciated,
Hunt

It is sporadic, I think. So you might try to see if it happens before exiting. Then again, I don't reply to myself all that often and link. You could always wait and put all the links in the final reply though I like when the link goes with the review.

Placing the Link to Place in a group at the end will work too. I only use the "reply" workflow, when I am doing multiple reviews in a city/region, i.e. Hawai`i, New Orleans, etc. It allows subscribers to "break out" the individual reviews, without having to read down a very long single post. I like adding the individual Link to each of these, but getting them into the upper-right frame is the most important. Also, each "reply" review usually has a URL to the restaurant, so also having a Link per each isn't all that necessary.
I'll be more observant in the future, and will probably use your idea.
Appreciated,

Based on my tests, I think you've got two workarounds available:
1. Remove the previous links as you make new posts. What I was finding was that when I did one reply and then hit 'reply' again to open the reply box back up, the restaurant I had previously linked to was already there. If I hit the 'remove' link on it at that point, added the next restaurant, and posted, I'd get just the one link I wanted.
2. Reload the page in between replies. Reloading the page clears the data in that panel so the next time you open one, you're back to starting from scratch.

I appreciate your followup. I'll explore those two workflows and decide which one works best for me. With two, how can I go too far wrong?
Thanks,
