  • m

Saturday night after 11:00pm was looking for a place in SF to get a good cheesburger or bar snacks along with a cocktail could only think of Bix which serves until 11:50pm. Anyone have any other ideas, suggestions? Anyplace in the city with the exception of the avenues. Thanks!! MRM

  1. Doesn't the Zuni burger come out from 10 to 12?

Unless they've changed, Zuni's burger is available before dinner and after 10. You have to know to ask for it after 10 as it's not on the menu.

    2. There's Bullitt over on Polk street. Haven't been there myself since it changed hands, from Bar Johnnie's but they serve booze and food until late in the evening. They have burgers as well. It was the 40's of Old English with a paper bag listed as the drink special that turned me off, but I may try it as it's in my hood.

NoPa, definitely. Of the places mentioned, I think its burger is quite competitive and the drinks are by far the best. NoPa also has good bar snacks at happy hour which might reappear late at night.

        2. Head to the Castro. I recommend 2 places. (1) LIME which serves a late night menu on weekends and their mini-sliders are tasty. Love the small bites / bar menu. LIME can get very noisy and is full of beautiful young hip people, both gay & straight. http://www.lime-sf.com/about-lime.php

          (2) HOME - serves up a great burger and fries. Will actually cook the burger medium rare, unlikely many other restaurants too paranoid about salmonella poisoning which won't happen as the meat is freshly ground. Has good bar scene also. Open until midnight. I'm partial to the outside covered patio - nicer atmosphere there than in the restaurant.

Salmonella is Chicken. E-Coli is Beef. And if the beef they use is from grassfed cows, then they don't even need to worry about that so it can safely be cooked to whatever temperature you want really.

Yikes. I guess another consequence of the commodity beef process.

          2. I haven't been there recently but Oola used to have a good burger. Kitchen open until 1am Tuesday-Saturday, midnight Sunday and Monday, bar until 2am daily.

The burger at Oola is great and the fries are really good, too. There is always a good bar crowd here.
