Broadway Bistro
I have read on this site of a little bistro Called Broadway Bistro. Last night while driving down Broadway with my thinking of a nice simple meal. So we went in and for those who have not been there its a cute little kind of romantic little restaurant about 40 seats with just a Wine and Beer license.I checked the menu it had a small but nice array of foods so here came the test. Being in the food business for many years I was taught by mentors that if you can make a really rich stock and braize a piece of meat everything is easy. They had Beef cheeks as an appetizer. so tender they could barely sit on the fork. My wife is a beet fanatic she had their beet salad neatly dressed with enough olive oil she loved it. I had gnocchi with a pork bolognese sauce very simple very tasty my wife had the boneless short rib like the beef cheeks they were totally flavorful and tender. The two young men cooking were easily seen and the passionate look they had in their eyes came out on their food. All good chefs really cook with their souls and heart.
I will have to pay them another visit. I used to live on Broadway (next door to Nicks) I went in there with my girlfriend because a lot of my chef friends had reccomended it, there was a fried chicken and waffles or somthing like that. It was very cramped about 2 or 3 too many tables for its tiny size, and the waitress looked like she was trying to navigate the bering sea to get to our table. I ended up ordering the duck confit with duck fat fries. Two food items I hold in very high regard. The fries were limp and the confit made no impact wasn't good wasn't bad. Forgettable. Girlfriends mussels were gritty. Again being almost open for a year longer now, maybe I should give them another choice, you seem to blog about this place a lot.
