Doc Ford's Rhum Bar--great atmosphere and excellent food. Don't miss the spicy shrimp appetiser...that, crusty warm bread to soak up the spicy sauce and an icy rum punch are all you need for a perfect lunch.

Another vote for Doc's...while you're there pick up one of Randy Wayne Wright's Doc Ford novels that inspired the restaurant.
Spent a weekend on Captiva last year...all I can say is eat on Sanibel.

my vote is Grandma Dots. on the marina. so nice to see the boats etc... always a line to get a table when it opens for lunch each day. an island favorite.....very simple food done well (grouper sandwich, grouper ceasar salad clam chowder etc) also the lazy flamingo on either sanibel or captiva is very good...bar type food...laid back and casual... Doc Fords is like a big TGI fridays lots of "decor" ...fun and good....but a big operation....:) I like the smaller favorites......

How timely! DH and I traveled 3 hours south today to meet an old friend of his visiting Sanibel, and their relatives. On the previous advice of Chowhounders, I had chosen Doc Ford's to meet for lunch. So this very afternoon, we sat on the back deck, in a corner, and it was comfortable, great weather, and decent food. I loved their Tropical Salad, with added grilled shrimp, but DH thought he had a better grouper sandwich and fries at our local favs closer to home on the Pinellas beaches. The service was slow at first, but got better. We sat for 2 hours and were not chased away. One word of advice, if you do sit on the back deck and want more shade, make sure you get a working umbrella - many were out of service, like ours. Oh yeah, I also told them their web site had PINE Ridge Road, instead of PALM Ridge Road, so hopefully they will change that soon.

the Lighthouse restaurant, not the fancy one with a view of the lighthouse, was pretty good for fish sandwich
