My friends & I are driving the backcountry, slow way up to Little Rock from Tuscaloosa.

So, any recommendations for Bfast in Columbus, MS? (We're going Friday, so a meat & 3 M-F place is cool).

Also, we're doing route 1 from Greenville, MS to Helena, AR. Any solid BBQ or lunch joints, preferably shacks on the side of the road.

And, other recs on 82 or route 1 mucho appreciated.

This isn't exactly what you are looking for, but I just ate there the other day so it is still fresh in my mind- in Indianola, MS (Home of the new B.B. King museum!), there is a restaurant downtown called the Crown. It is more along the lines of a tea room than a shack, but they have some food offerings that are out of this world good- of particular note: Catfish Allison, which is about as good as catfish gets! It is the kind of place where they come around to your table with platters of cornbread (take as much or as little as you want- if they see you are getting low they will bring you more), the dessert table has 4 or 5 kinds of pie, cakes, triflle, etc. and they don't even give you a check at the end of your meal, you just wander up through the little gift shop and tell them what you had.

Again, I know that it isn't exactly what you are looking for, but if you happen to be hungry while driving through Indianola, check it out!

Something else that you may wish to read up on- the Tamale Trail. Your route will be taking you through a *lot* of good places to get food, although you might have to sit on the trunk of your car to enjoy!

O yeah, that's exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for.
