purchasing bones for roasting?

alkylyou Feb 20, 2009 01:46 AM

i've never done this before and i was wondering if anyone had a good place to buy bones.
we're looking to roast them and eat tons of marrow.
there's going to be like 6-8 dudes getting together, having a brutal night full of norwegian black metal, shirtlessness and ingesting the souls of animals, so we're going to need a lot of quality bones.
also, how do you pick out bones?
can you judge them as you would the ripeness of fruit?

      Bob's Market

      1650 Ocean Park Blvd
      Santa Monica, CA 90405
      (310) 452-2493

call the butcher in advance to let him know how much you will need

The larger Whole Foods butchers have them . You have to tell them what kind you want. IMO if you are going to eat marrow , it's probably a good idea to get bones from naturally fed animals. Kosher butchers also have them.

will the butcher just know what to look for and pick them for me or will i have to describe what i want out of the bones?

Tell him what you are planning and ask for marrow bones.
