Good Indian in Mesa or Chandler (AZ)?

  • 9

I did a quick search, but will confess to also being a bit lazy. My father spends a couple of months each winter in Mesa, and is looking for a place to have Indian food in the area tomorrow night. They went to a Peruvian restaurant that I found on CH last year and loved it, so I'm under the gun to help with this one.

Thanks from a Manhattan hound!

  1. Woodlands in Chandler has excellent food

    1. India Gate on Kyrene and Chandler Blvd has a very good lunch buffet. Though it may be more British than Indian, I usually go on Fridays when they have Chicken Tikka Masala, one of the best I've had. The buffet has a nice mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes (all north-Indian, I think).

One of my Indian coworkers recommended Woodlands for dosas and other south-Indian vegeterian food, but haven't been myself.

        1. In Tempe, but very close to the Mesa border is the Dhaba. It's a slightly different concept in Indian food -- no buffet, chaat on the menu, etc. I went a few times after it opened and was impressed.

Thanks for the recommendation. Tried The Dhaba yesterday for lunch and really enjoyed the lamb curry lunch special. I liked that there was just a bit of ghee on top of the curry -- I wiped the bowl clean with the nan to savor every last bit of it. I plan to go back on Tuesday for the Aloo Ghobi lunch lunch special (the choices for the veg, chicken, and lamb specials vary each day).

          2. Thanks for all of the suggestions.

            1. Has anyone been to Curry House in Chandler lately? Their website is still up but their phones are disconnected. I could never find the place and always ended up going to Lee's Sandwiches instead.

While visiting C-Fu last weekend, we noticed that the sign was down and the interior was being redone, but it looks like another Indian restaurant is replacing it. Don't know if it's the same owners or a new operation.

              2. Star of India at the SE corner of Chandler Blvd and 40th street (west of the 10 a bit, but well worth the drive). I've always been delighted with the food there, and when we want Indian, we drive there from Gilbert.
