looking for good cheap food

I am going into the city on a Saturday for dinner and would like to find a restaurant with good food and reasonable prices ($20 or less for entre). I would like it to be within walking distance from Grand Central too. Also, one of my friends is allergic to shell fish - so a place that isn't focused on seafood is a must. Any suggestions?

  1. This is a tough one. The Grand Central area is very pricey. If you order carefully Osteria Laguna might fit the bill. The food is solid and the prices are moderate.

    1. Slightly longer walk, but I love Szechuan Gourmet on 39th between 5th & 6th if you're up for chinese. I love their cucumber salad and dan dan noodles, and the shredded potato dish is something a little out of the ordinary but delicious. Just be aware - when they indicate that a dish is spicy, they really mean it.

Thirded. I think this is really the best option for pure tastiness, value, and it's a cuisine from inland China and, therefore, not based on shellfish.

      1. You can try Pio Pio (34th; dont know if that's too far).
        Eeamon's on 45th btwn mad and 5th
Pershing Square - 42nd btwn park and Lex
You can always to go the restuarants in the food court at grand central

        1. One of my favorites, which I always recommend for pre-theater or proximity to Grand Central, is Akdeniz. It's Turkish and has a very varied menu with something for everyone, plus an incredibly reasonable prix fixe at $21.95 with no time limit (i.e., served all night). Virtually all entrees under $20. Charming ambiance and service. Reservations essential.
